I purchased the book, “The Bold Venture” literally as soon as I finished reading the first book in the series, “Once In A While”. I had gotten the first at a discount and figured I really had nothing to lose, but after I had a chance to get started I was hooked on the story of Vic and Louise and couldn’t wait to continue on their journey! Once again the author managed to capture my heart and completely entrance me with the story. Though at times this book slowed as compared to the first in the series, I still could not put it down and found myself completely longing to know more about the story. Once again the reader is able to get inside the minds and more so the hearts of the main characters to easily be transported back to a simpler and often happier time. The descriptions and details are as if the author is writing form her own personal point of view. Knowing that the author is writing of her own parent’s true love story is so touching and makes it even more special. I couldn’t wait to get into this book and now I am anxiously awaiting the third installment in the series. Now that I “know” the characters and how the story evolves, I want to go back and re-read the first book again. I caught myself almost skimming to find out what happened instead of taking my time and really reading it slowly. I was so caught up in the story and couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Reading of simpler times when hard work was the norm and a life of excess was rare instead of how we live today is so refreshing. This series is truly a great story and the innocence of the pure love and steadfast determination of the young couple are so refreshing. This book is the second in this series of three books. So many times when you read a series, the first book catches your interest and the book is so good but the other books in the series are a letdown and just are not as good as the first. I did not find this series to be like that. All three books were equally as good as the others. Book two picks right up where book one stopped. Sometimes it seemed like the main characters had so much trouble while everyone around them was having success-- but then again we all know people like this. If you just like a good story that takes place in the 40's and 50's you will like this series. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes that era in our history. The main couple in this book are crazy in love but have a lot of growing up to do and they take us along with them. About all I can say about this series is that it is just good reading and I enjoyed all three books in the series!Product details

WARNING IT WILL BE EXTREMELY HARD FOR YOU TO PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! I NEVER FELT BORED OR THAT IT WAS DRAWN OUT! LINDA'S ABILITY TO CATCH THE READER IS TRULY FASCINATING!
First of all, I truly enjoyed this book more than the first, and the reason being is that I could tell from Once in a While, that Vic and Louise were meant for each other. We all have the ability to meet our true soul mate that God intended for us to be with, and that could not of been more evident in book 1 of 3 of this series.
Linda has a tremendous gift that many authors would love to possess. God put it on her heart to write the story of her parent's, and I am so glad she followed through with it because all of the characters will hold a place in my heart long after I finished reading the entire series. There are families nonfiction and fictional that stay in our hearts forever but this family will remain in my mine forever without any doubt Vic, Louise, Lilly, Willis, Sonny, Sara, Edna, Billy, Tommy, Buddy, James(Jim), Alec, Fleet, AJ, Ruth, Earl, Floyd, Mr and Mrs. Womack, Miss Irene, and Doc. I am sure I left out some names, mostly children I believe. My favorite character is Miss Irene. She is like Vic's surrogate mother, and Doc is like a father to him. They hold truly special places in this story. However, I loved Lilly's transformation in this book!
Another ability she possess that I have only found a few times is the ability to capture the reader's emotions. It is an emotional rollercoaster, but it well worth the ride. I could feel everyone's joy, sadness, and laughter right along with them. I could envision myself as one of their friends watching their love story flourish. Louise and Vic faced many battles as we all do, but they accepted them with Grace. Yes they are not perfect, but pretty close!
Vic is looking for Bold Venture as the title states, and he just can't seem to figure it out what it is. Louise is encouraging him even though she has some doubts, but who wouldn't. You watch their love grow deeper and deeper. Their love story is like my grandparent's and it pure bliss to watch it unfold. We are let in to Vic and Louise's world, and I am very fortunate that I stumbled upon this series. You will have to read the book to find out if Vic finally get's his Bold Venture, and what it is!
I had to force myself to stop reading on two different occasions, but it was extremely hard. I enjoyed the book from the first sentence to the last. Last night I put the book down, but I couldn't fall asleep at midnight, so I continued reading until 230 this morning. I am off to read the final book Almost as Much, and feel bittersweet because it is the ending of the story, but it lives on through Linda. She has a Pinterest page dedicated to her books. I am waiting to look at it after I am completely finished. This book has many ups and downs that many couples face, but it is how you handle them together that matters. Jesus said that we would face many trials due to sin entering the world, and He is 100% right, but the love God gave between a woman and a man is how we overcome our obstacles, and live life to the fullest! They lived during very hard times, but found true happiness! I admire them so much!
I love how Linda incorporates God into her stories. It is one of the reasons I was so drawn to her books in the first place!
Your mom's ability to remember so many facts even though she is 90 years old is truly amazing. It just shows how deep her love is for her Vic, and I truly believe that God wanted you to write this story for others to see that life may not be all roses, but we can conquer anything with God's love and mercy. God equipped couples with such a strong desire to love one another, and that is evident here! I know it took you countless hours to write these books, but one day I truly pray that they make it to the big screen! They have what it takes to make it!
In my own personally opinion, these stories are better than Nicholas Sparks The Notebook, and that is saying someone because he is one of my favorites!
A beautiful story told as if you were right there at the time. People living the American dream with the same types of problems that face every generation. The constant in the stories, the faith in God that he will provide our every need, and that when we step out in faith, with hard work and dedication, anything is possible and dreams do come true. I for one, am so glad that Linda Ellen has taken the steps to tell her parent's story, to share with us. It has been encouraging and entertaining!
